Examples of eye emergencies that you should bring to us at
Pinder`s before your G.P. are as follows:-
Red eye –
we would do the necessary tests in order
to diagnose the cause of the problem and treat the condition if
appropriate, or refer on to your G.P., or directly to the
eye department of King`s Mill Hospital, as indicated.
Painful eye-Similarly,
we need to identify the cause so that any referral on to
specialist services can be made accurately and speedily.
Foreign body-
A foreign body not puncturing the eye, such as a piece of grit
in the cornea, can be removed, often as not, by ourselves. A
foreign body that actually punctures the eye is a Hospital
emergency.
Contact lens
misplaced under the lids can usually be moved to
a reachable position by pressure of the finger through the lid.
If the lens cannot be located, call in to see one of our
practitioners. If we are closed, then, if the lens is definitely
not on the cornea, it should not be harmful to sleep with the
lens still under the lid until we are open the following
morning.
Sudden loss of vision
could be serious and urgent diagnosis
is essential. Do not delay in calling us.
During
opening hours, in each of these cases, we would aim to see you
within 4 hours, for diagnosis of the problem and treatment or
referral onwards.
If
we are closed, then in all these cases, if there is pain
or the vision is affected, play safe and go to the eye
outpatient`s department at King`s Mill Hospital without
delay.
